Welcome Messages

Kate JonesMessage from Minister for Tourism Industry Development, The Honourable Kate Jones MP

Welcome to the beautiful Gold Coast – a great place to watch some of the world’s best triathletes battle it out at the 2018 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final.

What better location to host this global event, with the Gold Coast’s world-class beaches, surf, climate and lifestyle serving up a stunning backdrop for our international competitors.

This event delivers on the legacy of the biggest event in Australia this decade, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, highlighting the Gold Coast as a premier major events destination.

Queensland is a global leader in endurance events, and events like the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final put Queensland on the world stage, attracting large numbers of visitors and providing a significant boost to the tourism industry and local economy.

The Palaszczuk Government is proud to support the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final as part of Tourism and Events Queensland’s It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar.

Congratulations to IRONMAN Oceania, the competitors, volunteers and all those involved in ensuring this event is a wonderful success for Queensland.

I encourage visitors and competitors to explore the region and take home some amazing Queensland memories.

Minister for Tourism Industry Development

Mayor Tom TateMayoral message for ITU Grand Final Gold Coast 2018

I am delighted to welcome competitors, officials and fans of triathlon to Australia’s favourite tourist destination for the ITU Grand Final Gold Coast, the crown jewel of the annual calendar.

It is our privilege to again welcome a cohort of the greatest triathletes in the world in their bid to be crowned this year’s male and female World Champion. We are expecting around 5000 challengers from nearly 50 countries to give it their all to become the best of the best.

Fresh from hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games, our sporting facilities have enjoyed major upgrades and are in first-class condition for international competition. The course will again be at Southport Broadwater Parklands which proved a winner with both competitors and fans during the Commonwealth Games.

As always, Gold Coast strives to be as inclusive as possible for everyone who visits us and the Grand Final will feature many categories including elite, age and para events over both long and short courses.

Our wonderful winter weather provides ideal conditions for the event with warm sunshine and cooling breezes off the ocean. Fast times are almost guaranteed. It is one of the reasons Gold Coast has been home base for so many successful triathletes.

Of course, there are many reasons to visit Gold Coast and if you’re not in a strict training regime you will find a host of temptations to delight the senses.

We have a packed program of cultural festivals and a food scene that is mouth-wateringly delicious. Whether you enjoy unspoiled surf beaches or World Heritage-listed rainforest or thrill-packed theme parks, there is something for everyone.

Do come and enjoy and I wish everyone a wonderful time while you are here.
