About the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast has come into its own. It’s starting to look, feel and behave like a capital city, yet has kept hold of the beachy aura that’s attracted people for decades. Whether adventure calls your name, or you’re long overdue a restorative getaway, this metropolitan coastal city awaits you.

The 57 kilometres of sand and surf, 100,000 hectares of World Heritage-listed rainforest, award winning dining, active pursuits and more than 300 days of sunshine annually confirm the Gold Coast as a year-round destination of choice.  Whether on a solo adventure, travelling with a loved one or bringing the whole family the Gold Coast has an experience to suit.

The Gold Coast boasts 42 golden beaches each with their own personality. Each is pristine, perfect in its own way, with a natural energy to revitalise the senses. Southern Gold Coast is home to world-famous surf breaks including Snapper Rocks, Duranbah, Coolangatta, Kirra and Currumbin Alley. Burleigh Heads is the complete package with barrelling waves, a scenic headland and a cosy, coastal setting. For beginners, a learn-to-surf class is definitely in order. For family fun, you can’t go past the popular swimming spots of Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Northcliffe and Broadbeach. While the sheltered Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creeks are favourites amongst the locals for stand-up paddle boarding.

The Gold Coast sets many a challenge for the adventurer. Our ancient hinterland is home to Australia’s largest subtropical rainforest, where hiking trails crisscross the valleys, and spectacular waterfalls and ridges serve as inspiration for the family fun to be had at our world-famous theme parks. Those with a lust for more can try indoor skydiving, tree top zip-line adventures or a day on one of 24 picturesque golf courses.

The Gold Coast’s food scene has evolved so much in the last few years, it’s a full-time job just keeping up with the latest openings – from hatted restaurants, quirky cafes and food trucks, to wine bars and craft beer taphouses. Relish elegant beachfront hotel dining in Surfers Paradise, rooftop seafood in Burleigh Heads, Asian fusion in Broadbeach, and a vegan mecca in Miami.

Peace and serenity or fast-paced action, it's all here.

Glitzy nightlife, fabulous forests and beautiful beaches are just a taste of why Australia’s Gold Coast is famous for fun.
